GWA Spacing charts

The Spacing Charts were created by Billy Vivona and Bob Hryszko. Please static deflect to make sure the guides are where you want them and what looks good to you when the rod is flexed.

GWA 800     GWA 801     GWA 802     GWA 803     GWA 804

- The charts use millimeters, and are measured from tip ring to guide ring, and then guide ring to guide ring.
- We used a back grip length of 13", which we felt was an "Average" grip length for builds on GWAs. If you build a rod with a longer back grip, the stripper guide will be closer to the reel. A shorter grip and it will be further away. You can adjust the spacing as you feel necessary
- The stripper guide for conventional needs to be a size 20 double foot guide. We tried with 16 but could not keep the line off the blank. For spiral wraps you can use a Fuji KW 12M.
- For spiral placement, we used 2 transition guides. It is recommended to build the rod and wrap the guides in place. Prior to applying epoxy, run line through and flex the blank, adjusting the transition guides so that the line touches each as well as the first 180 guide. GWA blanks bend deep, so the angle of the line changes the more the rod bends. If you start with the first transition guide at "1:30", and the second at "3:30", you will be pretty close.
- You can use smaller or larger running guides. The charts were set up for "average" builds. For example, an 803 or 804 which will be fished with 50# braid/mono that has a uni-uni knot needs size 10 running guides. The same line combo with an Alberto, FG, or PR knot can be used with size 8's.
